Who I Am
De Rien is a one-woman design studio in the Ottawa Valley. I’m Valérie Ricard — designer, pattern maker, and the person who will be making your garment from start to finish. I hold a University degree in Fashion Design from Toronto Metropolitan University, where I specialized in lingerie, corsetry, and eveningwear.
I spent over six years working in the bridal industry, which gave me a deep and practical understanding of fit — especially for clients with a fuller bust, where proper structural support and specialized construction make all the difference. I’m also affiliated with Marshall Bespoke Kiltmakers, which sends tartan trews and highland dress clients my way for custom made-to-measure work.
My approach is rooted in natural fibres — silk, wool, cotton, linen — though availability and the specific demands of a garment don’t always make that possible. I use CLO3D virtual fitting technology to build a digital avatar from your measurements before a single piece of fabric is cut, so we can refine the fit without wasting material or your time.

Meet Valérie Ricard
Valérie holds a University degree in Fashion Design from Toronto Metropolitan University, with a specialization in lingerie, corsetry, and eveningwear. Her six-plus years in the bridal industry — combined with hands-on training in patternmaking and Gerber software — have given her a technically rigorous, client-first approach to bespoke garment construction.
She works solo by design: every consultation, pattern, and garment comes directly from her hands. That means a more personal process, clearer communication, and a finished piece that genuinely reflects you.
